Our Story

Join Us in Shaping a Future Where We All Thrive Together.
HRCPAD was founded with a clear mission: to address the health inequities faced by Black Canadians and advocate for equitable healthcare solutions through research and education. Our journey was inspired by the United Nations General Assembly’s proclamation of 2015- 2024 as the International Decade for People of African Descent, which emphasized the need to strengthen national, regional, and international cooperation to ensure the full enjoyment of economic, social, cultural, civil, and political rights by people of African descent, as well as their full and equal participation in all aspects of society.

Recognizing the unique challenges that Black communities encounter, shaped by Anti-Black racism and systemic barriers within healthcare, we set out to create a platform that amplifies the voices, experiences, and needs of People of African Descent. Inspired by the legacy of those who have long fought for health equity, we have worked tirelessly to bridge the gap between research, community engagement, and policy change.

Today, working with Canadian, international and multidisciplinary stakeholders, HRCPAD continues to lead efforts to advance Black health research and champion systemic change, ensuring a healthier and more equitable future for Black Canadians and the African diaspora.
